Time-temperature superposition in viscoelasticity and viscoplasticity for thermoplastics

The use of thermoplastics in the automotive industry is continuously increasing. Design parts require characterization and numerical modelling thermo-mechanical behaviour those materials under wide strain rate (0–300 s−1) temperature ranges (−30 °C to +85 °C). Large costly experimental campaigns are therefore necessary identify all behaviour's sensitivities. Yet, time-temperature-superposition (TTS) principle may be a powerful tool strongly reduce number required tests. This paper demonstrates possibility extend this viscoplastic domain while keeping same shift factors identified for viscoelasticity. So, limited tests (DMA tensile at room only) now enable whole thermoplastic behaviour. new approach implemented viscoelastic, model. A good correlation between simulations experiments validate approach.

Dielectric relaxation measurements on supercooled triphenyl phosphite show that time-temperature superposition (TTS) is obeyed for the primary relaxation process at low temperatures.
